For this post I thought it would be fun to try out something new and write in the form of an open letter. I decided to write to my future child:
Dear future child,
I pray this letter finds you in good health and at a happy time in your life.
There are a lot of things you will do in life that people won’t like. There are a lot of things you will say that people won’t like. There are a lot of things about you in general that people will have a problem with, but you can’t let that stop you from living your life. Sometimes the best ideas are those that come to us in our times of need. You may need someone to comfort you and someone to share your pain and sorrow with, but just know I will always be there.
I am 21 whilst writing this, so I haven’t quite figured life out yet; I’m still working out who I am and what I am supposed to be doing with my life. Right now I am currently a student, I’m studying English Literature and I’m in the second semester of my second year at university. Studying is tough, especially when my head isn’t totally with it. I’m just at that stage where my head feels like it’s going to explode at the sign of trouble – which seems to be quite often. To be completely honest though, even though everything isn’t perfect – I’m still mostly content with my life.
I know I have people who love me and would do anything within their capacity for me. There will always be those who try to bring you down, those who pretend to be on your side and be there for you. But regardless of all that, you need to remain content with your life and just be happy. Sometimes your job will be tough and you may hate it: circumstances may be that you have to continue working because money is tight and you can’t afford to be jobless… but as long as you have loved ones to come home to at the end of the day, all is right.
Another thing is, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because your mistakes can sometimes make you a better person if you learn from them and improve on yourself. Improving on yourself doesn’t mean changing who you are, rather being the best you can be. The main thing you need to remember is that your past shouldn’t define who you are. Do all you can to be a good person and a good Muslim.
Feel free to be weird and act crazy because the best of us usually are classed as ‘weird’. You may not always fit in to what society deems ‘normal’ or ‘cool’ but you don’t have to fit in with societal norms – as long as you attempt to be the best you can be. The one thing you shouldn’t ever lose is good manners, good character and your faith being number 1. You will be tested left, right and centre and have all of the hardships you can think of thrown your way, but as long as you have faith, you have hope and you believe in yourself; you will succeed in life.
Nothing that is happening in my life will have importance over you to me. You will be my life and my pride and joy. I hope and pray I can bring you up in the best of ways. And I hope and pray you receive everything you deserve that is good for you.
Thank you for reading!x
