January was the start of a whole new year. This meant back to uni for me; even though I did just get my student finance at the start of January, it all disappeared faster than expected. Granted most of it was put aside for rent, but the other half is nearly non-existent.
This week I was thinking of doing a monthly favourites post; since February just kinda started, I’ll be talking about my January Favourites. Here are some of the things I’ve loved last month.
So, my January favourites for 2017 are: (where most of my money went)
Laura Mercier – Secret Brightening Powder
What it does:
URBAN DECAY, Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Anti-Aging
What it does: It is a long wear, creamy eye shadow primer that supports antiaging and it ensures that your eyeshadow stays vibrant and crease-free all day. The primer lets you prep your lids for eye shadows, minimising the look of wrinkles and improving tone and texture.
Why I Love it: It does exactly what it claims to do. It always makes my eyeshadow glide on my eyelids smoothly. I can tell there is a major difference between when I wear eyeshadow with the primer and without. The primer always makes sure that there are no creases or wrinkles in your eyeshadow. It is perfect for a long day wear, and the texture is nice and smooth.
Morphe 35OM – MATTE NATURE GLOW EYESHADOW PALETTE
Why I LOVE it: The 35OM is an ALL MATTE version of Morphe’s 350 palette. The eyeshadow gives you an amazing warm look, which you can wear every day because the colours are so neutral and sexy. I have the 35OS palette too, which I just had to buy when I saw it was in stock on the beauty bay website, but I will talk about my other Morphe Palettes in a special Morphe post. The 35OS compared to the 35OM would be more of an eyeshadow palette that you would use for a night out or a party. Not that the 35OM couldn’t be used for a special occasion, the colours are just so classic and natural. The shadows are super super pigmented and are so nice and creamy soft to put on the eyelids. A must buy.
MAKEUP REVOLUTION LONDON – STROBE HIGHLIGHTER
What it does: The Makeup Revolution Strobe Highlighters are available in 3 shades: Radiant Light, Everglow Lights, Moonglow Lights and Rose Gold Lights. The powder is very light and it gives a natural illumination to the skin by diffusing the light. The strobe highlighters can be applied both wet or dry, and it sits on the skin
Why I Love it: The strobe highlighters can be applied both wet or dry, and it sits on the skin really well. I am in love with both the Radiant Light and Everglow Lights. I like to wear it alongside my ABH Gleam palette, as well as alone. It is just simply amazing and it lasts a good few hours. It just makes my makeup pop and I honestly swear by it.
MAC STUDIO FIX FLUID SPF 15 – Nc30
What it does: A Foundation that combines a natural matte finish and a medium to full coverage, with SPF 15 protection. It applies and blends easily and evenly. A key claim is that it is long-wearing, approximately 8 hours. It is meant to refine skin, provide comfortable, all day oil control and is meant to be sweat and humidity resistant.
Why I Love It: I love the MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation because it does what it says to a certain extent. It provides a medium coverage and it does apply and blend easily and evenly. It lasts a good few hours, which is good when I have to run errands. It also applies very well with the beauty blender. It does tend to oxidise a little, but that’s not too bad for me.
ST. IVES – NATURALLY CLEAR – APRICOT SCRUB, BLEMISH FIGHTING
What it does: A deep cleansing formula that gently exfoliates, removing oil, dirt and dull skin cells that can lead to blackheads and blemishes.
Why I Love it: This is my every month favourite face wash. It actually is really amazing. Although it does say to use it every other day, I use this every day alongside The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Facial Wash and L’oreal Men Expert Pure Power Black Charcoal Facial Wash. It does wonders; although I have sensitive skin (They have a sensitive skin face wash too) and this face wash is meant for Oily/Blemish Prone Skin, it is perfect for my skin and alongside the L’oreal face wash it stops me from getting spots. To be completely honest, I never actually got spots until I was 18, but after being introduced to ST. IVES by my partner, I absolutely love it.
L’OREAL MEN EXPERT – PURE POWER BLACK CHARCOAL WASH
What it does: L’Oreal Men Expert Pure Power Multi-Action Black Charcoal Wash helps target 5 signs of male skin imperfections: spots, blackheads, marks, oily skin and roughness. The black charcoal is mixed with menthol, for complete cleansing of the skin.
Why I Love it: Yes this product is made for men, but regardless of this it is perfect for my skin. I even stopped using it for a while, after my husband forgot his and nicked mine; my skin stopped improving and I began getting more spots. I began to re-use the face wash recently and it is amazing. Apart from the one time when I used Panoxyl gel on my face, I didn’t get any spots at all. The after smell of the face wash is so nice and the feel of my face is so soft after using the face wash.
Shea Moisture – RAW SHEA BUTTER, DEEP TREATMENT MASQUE
What it does:This Raw Shea Butter deep treatment masque lavishes hair with extreme moisture. The raw Shea Butter deeply penetrates while restoring dry skin on the scalp and body. It contains nourishing vitamins and fatty acids to soothe and rejuvenates sensitive, chapped skin. It is also certified organic.
Why I Love It: With my Afro hair (Yes, naturally afro) and all the chemical damage I have done to it, from the bleaching and all the nutrients and minerals lost from straightening my hair, this hair masque has worked wonders to restore what my hair had lost. It’s not perfect yet, but with every use I can see my hair improving.
